Flextronics, during their CC, mentioned more than $700 million in payments due Nortel in 2005 for its acquisition of the manufacturing business to be outsourced.

Furthermore, Owens was pleased with the cash performance in the 4th quarter 2004. Analysts forecast cash earnings in 2005 due to execution of the cost cutting plan.

Apparently, the two man telecom consultancy found in 2003 was looking for a plug. It seems the WSJ was looking for content. Nortel has been mentioned as #1 in market share in a number of technologies. Furthermore, Nortel spends substantially more than Lucent on R & D.

P.S.- Thank you for the post. I haven't purchased a WSJ since the negative article on Elan when its stock price was in single digits.
