Cymer Selected to Replace Competitor's Laser Light Sources

SAN DIEGO, Jan 25, 2006
Cymer, Inc. (Nasdaq:CYMI), the world's leading supplier of excimer laser light sources used in
semiconductor manufacturing, today announced that it has received a significant order from a leading
memory-device manufacturer to replace 27 of a competitor's laser light sources. In cooperation with a
lithography tool supplier, the installations of Cymer's production-proven ELS-6000(TM) Series and XLA
100(TM) laser light source products will commence this quarter and will continue throughout 2006. Apart
from increasing Cymer's current market share, revenue and total installed base, these wins are a testament
to Cymer's technology leadership, system reliability, and commitment to customer satisfaction.
"This is a true milestone for Cymer and underscores our commitment to technology innovation, reliability and
customer satisfaction, as well as the significant, long-standing relationships we've maintained with our
customers throughout the past 20 years," said Bob Akins, CEO of Cymer. "As IC fabrication costs continue to
rise, there are growing pressures to reduce risk-of-operations and ensure equipment extendibility to multiple
design nodes--this is especially true for memory-device manufacturers. We are pleased that Cymer laser
light sources were selected and, we will partner with our customers to ensure a smooth and efficient
product migration."
Deployed for use in system tools developing memory-based semiconductor devices such as FLASH and
DRAM; the ELS-6000 Series, are krypton fluoride (KrF) production light sources, offering a low-risk path to
90nm production, while the XLA 100 employs Cymer's production-proven dual chamber MOPA (Master
Oscillator Power Amplifier) platform, to drive 65nm production. Recognized as "best products" from
Semiconductor International magazine for delivering superior optical and power performance, as well as
providing chipmakers with a clear, seamless migration to multiple design specifications, Cymer's ELS-6000
Series and XLA 100 laser light sources continue to enable customers to enhance their process capabilities
while maximizing their capital investments.
Coming on the heels of Cymer's 3000th light source shipment in October 2005, the replacement of 27 of a
competitor's systems worldwide further augments Cymer's ever-growing technology and market leadership.
