That's one of the oddest features of American politics.

People like Pat Buchanan who were at one time considered far-right have nearly identical views to people on the left like Ralph Nader and Noam Chomsky. Both groups have this quaint respect for democracy, a nation run in it's own self-interest, and for the benefit of it's citizens, without deficits.

Those who seek the further advance of the "national security state", to take an idea from Gore Vidal, serving the interests of a select group, are not properly left or right, but merely dictators of the fascist variety.

I agreed with the second half of his article. And the first half was a paean to the guy who put the brakes on the US economy for 8 years and made mediocrity the prevailing standard. But, if Buchanan is saying that Ike was a genius compared to Dumbya, then, I agree. But he's using Special Olympics qualifying requirements. <G>
