Isn't it a little unseemly to have a former Klansman be out in front in obstructing the Rice nomination?

I assume he's a former Klansman, but we really don't know. Maybe he's still in it. He's never explained or apologized for his past.

"There are white niggers," he said. "I've seen a lot of white niggers in my time. I'm going to use that word."

--Robert Byrd (KKK-W.Va.) in an interview with Tony Snow

You would think Kennedy would have learned to bite his tongue after all the years he's spent in public life? Words always come back to haunt.......but what with all the drinking and such.........

And the question needs serious answering..........so what happened?

M

"There was no reason to go to war in Iraq when we did, the way we did and for the false reasons we were given," said Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass.

The following is from a Kennedy press release issued last October and still on his website: kennedy.senate.gov It is not possible to reconcile these comments with his slanderous accusations of last week:

"There is no doubt that Saddam Hussein's regime is a serious danger, that he is a tyrant, and that his pursuit of lethal weapons of mass destruction cannot be tolerated. He must be disarmed. ... There is clearly a threat from Iraq, and there is clearly a danger... We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction. ... In public hearings before the Senate Armed Services Committee in March, CIA Director George Tenet described Iraq as a threat but not as a proliferator, saying that Saddam Hussein 'is determined to thwart U.N. sanctions, press ahead with weapons of mass destruction, and resurrect the military force he had before the Gulf War.' That is unacceptable...

"If Saddam's regime and his very survival are threatened, then his view of his interests may be profoundly altered. He may decide he has nothing to lose by using weapons of mass destruction himself or by sharing them with terrorists. .. Nor can we rule out the possibility that Saddam would assault American forces with chemical or biological weapons. ... Clearly we must halt Saddam Hussein's quest for weapons of mass destruction." -- October 4, 2002

Kennedy also wrote at the time, "Let me say it plainly: I not only concede, but I am convinced that President Bush believes genuinely in the course he urges upon us. --9/27/03 kennedy.senate.gov So what happenedhttp://www.vermontgop.org/wmd_09_03.shtml

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction! ."

I watched most of the Senate hearing on CSPAN and as an American I was disgusted with the PARTISAN POLITICS that were played with this important nomination and the DANGER that some of the Senators caused both to our American Soldiers and the Iraqi people screwing up the courage to vote on Sunday. The worst of the worst were:
Barbara Boxer
Ted Kennedy
Mark Dayton
Byrd (this fellow may be senile though)

Running 4th was:
Carl Levin

Americans, if these Senators are in your state PLEASE for the LOVE OF YOUR COUNTRY do not vote for them again.
Incidentally, I didnt see Kerry yesterday, I think he BUGGED out as the evening progressed and may be talking today, I suppose he too will manage to make the list. I am not against these people for being against Rice, I am against them cause they made clear in their words and actions they are AGAINST AMERICA. jdn
