The rumors of EK's death are highly exaggerated. EK has changed its management, which may explain part of the reversal in its fortunes. No doubt, the Kodak brand name is still very much alive. Additionally, two of Kodak's digital cameras, plus the little printer that works with them, got very good reviews in the industry. Better late than never.

Kodak still has lost printer business to HP, Canon, and Epson, simply because it started too late. The two highly recommended cameras are easy to use and give good quality images, but are not exceptional when compared to similar cameras available from Nikon, Canon, and Minolta, etc.

One of the big improvements in cameras uses image stabilization to prevent blurring due to shaking the camera. Minolta appears to have an answer to this problem that allows interchangeable lenses, thereby saving a good deal from the systems used by Canon and Nikon. Kodak's philosophy, however, is not to provide equipment that makes exceptionally good images, but decent enough images intended to appeal to the average amateur photographer. They still prefer that photographers take their digital images to a commercial store for printing--the same old philosophy on which Kodak was founded: You press the button. We do the rest.

Yo, Ausdauer! Do you remember the bet you proposed that Sandisk's market cap would exceed Kodak's by the end of 2004? Didn't happen. Not even close. Sandisk's highest market cap for the year was about 20% lower than Kodak's lowest market cap. Currently it's less than half.

Not disparaging you. You're a wonderful contributor to the folder. Just having fun remembering that Yogi Berra was so right about avoiding making predictions, at least those about the future. :)
