You are not taking into account that the only real benefit to the U.S. of the Iraq invasion is the establishment of large, permanent military bases in the middle east.

The benefits of these bases are: (1) protect Israel from attack; and (2) secure a supply of oil in the event islamic radicals seize control of S.A.

If our troops are pulled out of Iraq, neither of these benefits will be realized and the whole invasion will have been for nothing. Therefore any talk about bringing home our troops is a mere ruse, the goal from the beginning has been to keep our troops there for decades.
