So if you are a pulmonologist then race might matter. Interestingly, none of the medical reference books I use have any reference values based on race, but then, they're all general medical reference books (oriented towards health care professionals, but not specialty books for pulmonologists).

I wonder how much money the rest of the country would save by not "guessing" what race a patient is, or denoting it, surreptitiously or not, on medical records? If you estimate that it takes, say, five seconds per patient, over time, how much does it cost, on aggregate?
