CB,

You read a whole lot into any discussion of race or gender that isn't there. I have no idea on your background that leads you to the combative environment in this discussion.

Race seems to be important to you. Race doesn't exist, but racists do - quite a conundrum.

Now in a later note to Mary - after doing some email with a genetic researcher friend - I am more inclined to discuss 'ethnic' issues as markers for disease than 'race'. My friend pointed out the regional nature of the origin of most african americans. His example was that kenyans and ethiopian etc do not fit the same genetic profiles for diseases as west africans.

So why ask race? He said it became prevalent when looking for diseases impacting african americans and as a broad brush to start an interview. But he doesn't practice - he works in research.
