That all depends on what your definition of the "status quo" is.

The status quo is the tax dollars do not get spent promoting any specific religion. That's not at all controversial, and that's the way things are in the US and have been for my lifetime.

The ACLU suing to get the cross off of the LA County seal is hardly what I call the preservation of the "status quo," for instance. My tax dollars at work.

Your example is a little picture item, along the same lines of mindmeld's issues with school kids not being able to have a Yiddish language club in order to better read the Torah in their public school. I'm talking the broad, big picture, which keeps government money from promoting specific religions. You can find little problems with any big issue, but the core idea (government money should not be spent on promoting specific religions) is a good one.

And its the status quo......
