The hardest hit of any group were German jews I am not going to research it for links right now...but I'm not sure that is correct. My recollection from, serving with dozens of ("10812, DP") former East European veterans in SF in the 60s, touring death camps, and a few notes I have on photos is that 11 million total were murdered in the holocaust. Almost 6 million Jews total were killed. They were mostly from the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Norway, Holland, Italy, Norway, Poland, Netherlands, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Romania, Croatia, Bulgaria, Greece. The Polish statistics are often overlooked when thinking about the holocaust. Hitler ordered the death of every man, women and child in Poland regardless of religion. 5 million Poles were killed. 3 million of the Jews killed were Poles. The other 2 million Poles were Christians and Catholics. I believe history eventually is going to view WWII, Yugoslavia and the current conflict as religious wars. For some reason...perhaps PC, perhaps a fear of making things worse, we don't seem to be capable of making that declaration presently. uw
