That's not the part I was thinking about. They go under the ice cap and, as the sub approaches the location of the base, they are looking for a suitable place to surface. The sonar operator is watching his scope and keeps calling something out so the captain can decide where to surface.

That's what I was referring to; remember what it was he was chanting?
