The definition of torture was refined in discussions with Jewel. NC and I were talking more about a terrorist with knowledge of an imminent wmd attack about to occur. The question was whether in such a case was the captured terrorist a prisoner or still a combatant as what he set in motion was about to occur. Neither NC or me was in favor of abu graib or GST hysterical posts regarding the skinning of prisoners and stuff like that. Yes there are grey areas where reasonable people may disagree on whether to do it or not. In almost all cases its done more outside the law than within and if wrong, folks who do it might find themselves doing some time as in civil disobedience cases.
I do retract my insult because i think on further reflection you will be less harsh on NC and my opinion on this. We are not talking about indiscriminate torture at all which we agree is not acceptable. But if you persist in implying that NC and I are proposing indiscriminate use of torture, i reserve the right to ad homeninize. (g) Mike@lookingforcommonground.com
