AMD should have a hell of a time garnering support for that one, I can imagine what INTEL will do, and by the time it finally reaches the market, Centrino should be even more dominant than it is now. By the time Turion 64 finally launches, we´ll see who will support it, and how. And how competitive it is vs. Dothan/Centrino. Until then, it´s nothing more than a name. No specs, no design wins, vague availability horizon. So if you ask me today if I think that balances the scale a bit, I have to say no. Maybe in six months, it will look different. Maybe not. What exactly do you expect from Turion? Will it match Pentium M in terms of performance? Up to what model? Will Turion notebooks be competitive in battery life with Centrino notebooks? Will the feature set be competitive? Who will support Turion, and how? Will AMD´s mobile market share grow thanks to Turion? When will it be available in quantity in the markets around the world? What will customer acceptance be like? Will they go for it, or will it seem like a cheap knockoff to them? Will it allow AMD to gain commercial accounts, as they "hope"? I see countless questions, but no answers. Just a name. And this from the CC:You may have not noticed but when we first announced our Turion 64 mobile technology, it is not only a processor technology but also it really is a platform offering that over time with partners we will present to the market. And this: We intend to have partnership in the technology in the market towards the second part of the second quarter. Whatever that means. How bullish does that sound to you, even coming from AMD? It doesn´t seem like Turion will be material for AMD "anytime soon", imho.
