He is right that the Japanese have not come to terms with what they did. The friction with China and Korea as well as all of southeast asia continues to this day because of their inability to take responsibility for what they did. The Germans have done this and their citizens are well informed. Japanese schoolchildren otoh do not get the true story of what happened during the war. Some Japanese believe that the US started the war with Japan by using the ABomb rather than ending it (or at least a survey about 10 years ago suggested this). Mike

I don't hate people -- I merely recognize the importance of the rule of law and do not accept torture as a means to an end -- however it is dressed up. The Japanese did unspeakable things in large part because they lived in a world were this behavior was condoned if not outright encouraged. We should not expect different results if we condone or encourage torture under ANY circumstances.
