My prior point was timing plays a lot in outcomes. If Berber had held on to Cyber Trader and tried to sell the business now he'd not be getting the kind of money he got back when he sold it.

Can't agree. He apparently created Cyber Trader, either himself or with the help of others. Years ago discount brokers didn't exist. Then Schwab came along. Then more competition like E*Trade, Brown, Fidelity, ... Then direct access firms (IB, MB Trading, Cyber, ...). This has helped the public enormously in reduced transaction costs.
