"That is not at all contradictory to my remark that Bush is responsible for demonizing Saddam Hussein"

No, that's the assertion you've failed to substantiate. The contradiction was between your statement that you are "not blaming Bush for all that" and then a paragraph later holding him "responsible" for it.

"Bush had to demonize Saddam to make him an enemy worthy of going to war over"

No, he didn't. Those Americans who actually read newspapers and watch the news already knew Saddam's record. He demonized himself. All Bush did was lay out the evidence and tell Americans what he thought we needed to do about it.

"I am not sure why this is so difficult to understand."

I understand perfectly. You've just failed to make your case that past US support for Saddam (or any other tyrant) should in any way constrain our policies toward Iraq today or in any way delegitimizes Bush's policies. Saying "we're as bad as them because we supported them in the past" is just not a reasonable argument against a policy of opposing such regimes now. It is just not logical. Why is this so difficult for you to understand?
