Aus--Re c.c. and comments about Samsung converting to MLC. It seems that once Samsung starts making its higher capacity chips using MLC, it will result in substantially higher royalty payments to SanDisk. This could lead to even better profits for 2005, though I don't expect such royalty payments to be reported until much later in the year, or in 2006.

Another thing that was interesting in the cc was the emphasis on new products as a way of soaking up some of that purported excess capacity. With an 8 gb chip ready for the market, it looks to me as if the ubiquitous hard drives in portable or laptop computers are about to be replaced with flash memory. I can foresee a time when hard drives will be used mainly for mass storage, archiving, or very large files where quick read and write speeds are essential.
