I think that is the likely scenario. The shiites haven't been responding to provocations because they want the election to take place asap, but once it is over their militias will start hitting back.

I wouldn't say entertaining. But I agree with you that Sunis will get paybacks from Shiites. I really don't see how that will be avoided. I think the only reason it hasn't happened yet is that the Mullahs are restraining the Shiites so they can win the elections, and get the US out of the country first.
