UW, the solution to not getting enough people when you are trying to hire is the same in any business. Make the entry level more attractive. They raise the entry level pay and bonuses, they will get the applicants.

Trying to go to a draft would be politically disastrous. It would be the critical issue around which the anti-war left could start riots all over the country. "Draft my boy to be killed in Iraq? Over my dead body!!!!"

That is why the left is calling for a draft. They think they could ride it back into control of the Government.

"Forgeddaboutit!" :>)

I would like to think that that speech wouldn't scare anybody signed up for elite training though his sentiments are quite accurate. But can you say that to draftees??

Update: A friend writes: You think American soldiers facing lethal suicide crazies are brave? No way. These students, a mere one hundred or so, faced down a single lethal seargent armed to the teeth with thousands of razor sharp pamphlets; this is the very definition of courage; I never knew such bravery possible outside the mythology of the Iliad and the Odessey. Just look at their bold faces; it makes you want to weep.
