I also agree with this thinking. Based on what I know from publicly available information, Intel's 2MB single core processors and Smithfield dual-core will turn out to be disappointments in terms of performance. IMO, they were added soley to counteract the threat from AMD, not because they were the well thought out natural next step evolution of their architecture.

However, Intel will do what Intel is very good at and attempt to market their way out of this. Whether Wall Street ultimately believes the marketing hype remains to be seen but I think they will be skeptical as they have this past year, because...

AMD will win the hearts and minds of the professional high-performance workstation and server markets for everything from HD video editing, 3D modeling (games through movie production) and simulation, to high throughput transaction processing and databases. They'll win because of performance and this will be demonstrated over and over in the press and on review sites. Winning here is more important to AMD in the long run than the marketing of the ViiV logo.

This dominance, IMO, will trickle down in such a way that even the moderately savvy home shopper will see the benefits of buying A64 or waiting for dual core A64 and exclaim:

"Man I got to get me one of these".
