Much was made of how Iraq would benefit from the gift of human rights we would bestow on them. This became the rallying cry -- freedom. If the Shia make the mistake of engaging in the torture that caused us such revulsion and that we used as a justification for an invasion (something that emerged as a war rationale only after the failure to find wmd), then we did little to help Iraq, other than give one group their turn in running the torture chambers.
