"What will happen when they (China)call in the debt or the notes are due?"

My mothers asks the same question and she is a Republican.
For what it's worth she doesn't support Bush's social
security changes either.

What will happen when they call in the debt

It's pretty clear that China will use that debt to take over Tiawan. They will make demands and when the U.S. objects they will sell a few treasurys to get our attention. I don't expect them to do it while the dollar is falling on its' own, but once it begins to stabalize they can quickly destabalize it.

""What will happen when they call in the debt ""
This debt is in $ - the currency of USA
if anybody want paper $ instead of obligations of US treasury
US can print paper $ and "they"(Chinese or whoever} can come and pick them up.
