Verdad, those three items were minor [in instance of the cost of gateways] and trivial in the instance of the polar bear hunters above the Arctic Circle, and ocean-going boats.

The number of people spending time in polar regions is about 0.0000001 % of the world's population. They can use Iridium [if they can afford it].

Similarly for ocean-going vessels. They can use Iridium. Or wait for the second constellation which could include 3 x 10,000 km high satellites to provide oceanic coverage. Again, the number of prospective customers was relatively small, though a LOT higher than the number of pole-travellers.

The cost of gateways was also small, though more than trivial. With 10 billion minutes available, for 50 gateways [assuming that many had been built], that would be 200,000,000 minutes per gateway per year. Suppose a gateway cost $5 million a year [all included] to build and operate. That would be 500,000,000 cents a year. That's under 3c a minute. Hardly a huge problem [and it doesn't cost that much money to build and operate a gateway]. Of the $3 a minute being charged to subscribers, 3c a minute wasn't the killer.

Being some sort of cult-follower, not dealing in reason, you won't understand that, or be able to correct me if it's incorrect. I will not wait with bated breath because over decades of experience, I've learned that the true-believers do not reason, they assert.

But go on, make my day and explain how I'm completely confused, ignorant and have got it wrong. Okay, I'll bate my breath if it'll encourage you to have a go.

Why do you have such a bee in your bonnet about Globalstar's past?
