Yes, Al Qaeda "declared war" on us. But it's not really a "war." There isn't really a good word for what it is, but "war" is definitely not the right word. There are numerous definitions of war. Here is one from Webster that describes the current situation. "War : A state of hostility, conflict or antagonism." Our war on Al Qaeda is to real war as the lightning bug is to the lightning. In World War II, the total number killed, civilian and soldier, was in excess of 60 million, including 400,000 Americans. Apples and oranges comparison. Only, 2,000 Americans had been killed when we declared war in WWII and the large US casualty losses didn't begin for 2 1/2 more years. We don't know what the final tally will be in this war. One round of Smallpox or one well placed Nuke could easily inflict many times more than all of our WWII losses.
