A billion Canadian bucks is just a drop in the bucket in contrast to far, far more billions wasted by the US government. And I really mean wasted.

The billion bucks you referred to was actually not a waste in Canadian terms as it was money spent in the exercise of democracy within Canada! A segment of the population had wanted gun-control for fairly obvious reasons. But another group was against it because they believe (and rightly so) it constituted a violation of their rights in a democratic country. At the end of the day, the registration process was stopped. That's all. No big deal! Of course, the Opposition made whatever political hay they could of it.

Because the billion bucks was spent within Canada in paying workers and businesses & etc, it was actually not a waste. That money went into the economy of Canada! It was not like the money America wastes on some wishy-washy and pie-in-the-sky projects in far-flung places like Iraq.
