Mustering out pay:

My dad's mustering out pay from the Navy in WW1 was $5 and a ride home to Chicago.
I joined the standard 52-20 club in 1946, $20/week for 52 weeks, and a ride home to Michigan. Keep the clothes and shoes.

We were also allowed something for college expenses, although I'm not sure about that amount. But I did get to use $500 for flying lessons.
