I believe the word "struggle" has been used extensively by those fighting against the coalition, democracy and nation building in Iraq and the ME. At least that is the word that I recall hearing more than any other when describing the effort. I'm not sure if it was coined by Al Queada or the BBC, but I'm sure it was one or the other.

The term being used for the current-day events in the Sunni Triangle by the Baathists and other Sunni dead-enders and Al Sadr's Shias is "insurgency."
