Was it back in 1960 ?

I was still in my twenties... like 27... It was something I had wanted to do while in Europe just as I visited all the grave sites that I could of Americans..and the white crosses.

Somehow deep inside I felt it was a debt to pay in my viewing these sites in silence. To pay respect, to honor those who gave their lives...some involuntarily and in the case of the veterans, voluntarily.

What a ghastly time.

I am sure that all of Germany looks differently now from 1960 .Remember this wasn't too long after the war ending.

Some of the concentration camps had the bunks where the captives lived, firing squad walls where one could see the bullet holes, gallows where some were hanged. Only Dachau had the ovens.
