I read in the paper this morning that OPEC says oil prices will be stable through spring.

I see several possibilities thereafter:

1. The malcontents try even harder to upset things - could bomb oil wells, etc. Prices go higher for awhile, until others step up to the plate.

2. It will not be smooth sailing in Iraq but will be apparent that they are on the right track. Prices go lower. Rest of the Arab world sees this, is envious, start their own painful pushes for more freedom.

3. Other oil-producing nations take the bit between their teeth and push to produce more, i.e. Russia. This is an opportunity for them to get their own economies off the ground. Fill the vacuum, so to speak.

4. U.S., hopefully, starts looking at alternative fuel. Oil will run out - not in our lifetime, but it will.

5. Third World countries such as China will need to start putting environmental controls in.

Just some random thoughts. What are yours?
