Some Chinese boycott of Japanese product but not a whole lot. Here is the latest survey result done by 17 Japanese NGOs on the issue.
Message 20980103

Although from 2004, the call from ordinary Chinese to boycott Japanese product become stronger, as much as the gov. discourages the public activities of such. As the dispute in the Eastern China Sea is getting worse, as the stop of the Japanese gov. loan to China is coming, this boycott thing might heat up and become a trend.

I read that some people in smaller cities dare not to buy Japanese cars even if they want to due to the vandalism towards Japanese car<g>

Battery, I guess the price is also an issue. Japanese batteries tend to be more expensive so less buyers.

And in terms of NI-MH batteries, Chinese companies now are catching up.
