That's quite a problem for the bug, limiting the number of human cases it can create and therefore reducing the number of recombination and reassortment opportunities and therefore delaying the time when it hits the jackpot, which it must eventually do unless something happens to stop the process. Once it's in the human realm, hopping from person to persons, the same process won't be available. We won't be killing everyone within a kilometre of a human case. So the spread of the bug, once it gets to humans in the right form, will be spectacular compared with the spread in domestic animals. Mqurice

Henry, where do we find the total number of cases so far? And where do we find the total number of deaths? WHO doesn't seem to be putting much effort into reporting what's going on, or I'm missing the links. Edit... Aha, found it! who.int 2 February 2005 Country/ Territory Total cases Deaths Cambodia 1 1 Thailand 17 12 Viet Nam 37 29 Total 55 42 55 cases, 42 deaths = 76% death rate and I suppose as with sars, a couple of those are hanging in the balance and could die. That's 80% death rate. That's about as bad as it gets. The bug is so vicious that those infected don't go on to infect others by walking down the street. They are dead! And unlike sars, people are dying in a few days [I think that's correct]. Mqurice
