"The fact is that we did not go into Iraq before, and most agreed that was the course to take at the time...not change the gov't of Iraq"

First off, most did not agree, please how can it possibly make sense to have allowed Saddam to rebuild his "evil empire." ... Thatcher said it was a mistake not to finish Saddam off.... Second, Bush Sr. made it very clear to the Iraqi people he was coming and having said so and then not following through led to a lot of Iraqi incredulity toward Bush Jr.'s similar assurances to the Iraqi people. If you read any of the books on U.S. covert activity before the invasion, CIA-types on the ground had to deal with a lot of skepticism, Iraqis just didn't believe the U.S. was coming this time because it appeared to them that one promise had already been broken and a second broken promise was probable.

But anyway, it's true, that's all in the past and I hope the Iraqis will get it together and become a great nation and an ally.
