I have a feeling that the people in Iraq were encouraged by the successful recent elections in Afghanistan and Ukraine. Not to denigrate the wonderful feeling of being free for the first time in most of their lives, but watching the success of others must have given them the feeling that democracy works.

If Afghanistan and Ukraine had turned out badly, surely that would have discouraged them.

So now that's three in a row -- who's next?
