By some estimates, 9/11 cost the U.S. economy half a TRILLION dollars. Then adding in the lost stock market wealth makes it even more. Not to mention, the loss of 3,000 civilians. So when I compare costs of war in the Middle East against losses we sustained in 9/11, I think it's worth it. I think the costs of shaking the whole Middle East a bit is worth it. The alternative is to retreat and act like sitting ducks until the next attack. I'd rather be on the offensive.

Consider it an investment. War today means less war and grief down the road. What is being accomplished today in the Middle East may make it possible for my children to travel their some day without worrying for their safety. Who knows. Maybe I'll even see that day myself. If we did nothing and allowed tyrants to continue to rule, we'd never see change in the Middle East and the hatred of the West would continue to grow. We have nothing left to lose with respect to the Middle East. Anything is worth trying, because it can't get any worse over there.
