IMO, SI is like a community, with many houses, or buildings. I like to think of each thread is like the old salons (not saloons) were... Where educated people gathered to talk over the days events, or the latest world or national events, or books and music. Like anything else, there is some chatter and/or opinion from the participants, but even from that, we learn. If anyone wants a "news or blog only" thread/house on SI, I'm sure there are some. I can help find at least one of them if someone wants to PM me. If someone doesn't like how this thread goes, they of course, are free to start their own. In the meantime, LB, you have a winner right here, and it is very apparent when one checks out other blogs....Someone said this is like a metablog, and I agree. In the meantime, it is difficult to tell other people about this concept. Somewhat like going to a college class about politics and world events, when EVERYONE is expected to gather materials, and and the info or thoughts are discussed, or sometimes not, but always processed.

I seriously doubt my friends are visiting on-line sex chat rooms seeing as they are mostly women. And my men friends are too caught up in their jobs, and families, beer making, health.....and maybe porn.....to give a rip. They invariably ask whether it is a chat room. I try my best to explain that it is a complicated and informative information and message center with active involvement by a world wide body of individuals on issues or subjects of interest who......for the most part...consider themselves part of a family....the family of man. It certainly takes an open mind to discuss these things, and expand the mind, but most of all, a willingness and driving curiosity to explore that which is outside one's own self. Throw in some patience and the desire to be heard and you have the real deal. Happenstance brought me here.......I'm grateful for that.
