I already posted a synopsis of the historical record -- most of us followed it in real time. Perhaps you have been concerned with other issues for the past couple of years. The election that just took place was not what the Bush team had in mind -- this election is to choose the people who will write the constitution. Sistani made it clear that the Iraqis should write their own Constitution. The UN stepped in to run these elections and now there is a legitimate process to prepare an Iraqi Constitution -- versus the convoluted US controlled process that the US had planned.
