He's the carbon rods in our reactor.

LB does as good a job moderating as anyone on SI.

Why would you possibly have anyone who posts regularly on this thread on ignore? It's pretty obvious that LB does as good a job moderating as anyone on SI.

He does. But as he just said, he doesn't control the chit-chat, at least not often or lately. He only controls the insults and personal attacks. If you want a thread free of the latter, you can rely on LB to keep things sane and you don't need ignore.

I imagine that most people equate the ignore function with shutting down the rowdies, as you seem to, but there are other applications for ignore. It depends on what you want to avoid. This particular discussion has been about how to avoid the chit-chat. You can use ignore to do that as well, at least you could. I used it under the old system during periods when the thread volume got too high to keep up with. There are enough prolific posters whose commentary is consistently about showing the colors and bonding rather than discussion of issues so by omitting them I was able to cut the thread volume about in half without much risk of missing the kind of posting that is most valuable to me.

I imagine that other people use or used ignore for yet other purposes, perhaps for avoiding those whose ideas they don't like.
