Agreed. The defamation of the word 'liberal' is a brilliant and calculated campaign that has been going on for years. The conservatives won that battle once liberals started running from the term.

The fact that we live in a 'liberal democracy' is lost on many of today's conservatives.

I used to label followers of Bush 'rightists', but some on this board took exception (plus, it was not wholly accurate). I think the best label, the one that fits both semantically and demographically, is 'neoconservative'. It is ironic that neoconservatism is defined by an almost pathological rejection of most, if not all, of the tenets of 'traditional' conservatism...
