Well Palestine isn't a country, and Qatar's emir hasn't given up power. When the Qatari royal family gets the same oil revenue % as an ordinary Qatari citizen, then you can claim their is some democracy in Qatar. That is NOT the case today. I never said Qatar was a democracy nor did I say that Palestine was a nation state. We were talking about elections. There have been a number of elections in the ME over the past 50 years. BTW Iraq is not a democracy either.Put it this way, there has not been an orderly change of power in Arabia for 50 years. And that's actually a problem with the Iraqi elections as well - they let the interim rulers run, with all the unfair advantages implied in that. So then, nothing has really changed.......yet. That's why I said the intent of the Iraqi election is not that big a deal....not yet in any case. The big deal with be after the constitution is established and people are running for office. If that were true, why do you think the right is so intent in driving the left into the ground? You seem to be one of the many 3 standard deviations type on this thread. The vast majority of Americans don't have the issues with right and left that crop up on this thread. They'd rather watch the Super Bowl. I think you are wrong but any evidence I can provide you would be anecdotal. In any case, I believe that this country suffers from a very pronounced split which provoked many a heated exchange leading up to the election. Prior to 2000, I was one of those people you claim rule this country. The 2000 election, Bush and 9/11 changed all that. And I am not alone. Four years ago, there was maybe a couple people who posted on this thread...........and we talked about anything and everything. Since 9/11, the thread has become increasingly and heatedly political, and the numbers posting have increased significantly. In a small way, I think this thread reflects what's going on in the rest of the US. ted
