maybe its wishful thinking only but as far as I recall I have read and understood "Fundamental Muslims", "Fundamentalists" in the context of ME and/or Muslims or Fundamental Islamists ("also called FIs by some") from MM all the way.
If you ignore his original posts and refer to the attacks on same, however, you may get a different impression.

My friends on these threads motivated the change. I used to say Muslims all the time in my posts. In my head, I was always thinking Fundamentalist Muslims, but just didn't bother putting the prefix down. When someone correctec me, can't remember who, I started being more diligent about putting in the prefix.

Can't paint everyone with the same brush. ;)
