I get the feeling that the Vietnamese, north or south, have a hatred for the Montagnard going back centuries. They consider them primitives who should be wiped out. True. The worst of it is some of the previously imprisoned Montagnards have been escaping to Cambodia where they get international refugee status. The Vietnamese are determined to stop this and have even been shooting those trying to leave. Reminds me of the Berlin wall. I also discovered in December while working the problem back East, that approx 150 Montagnard family reunification cases have been approved recently (last 90 days) by our State Department. These wives and children are eligible for immediate entry into the USA, but the Vietnamese will not issue them passports and our consulate in Saigon will not issue the visas without a passport. We have been working with the resettlement agency for these cases, Lutheran Family Services, to get this info to the highest levels of our government. The Vietnamese hate the Montagnards so much they are not willing to let them go. Makes no sense.
