Really? I got quite a few e-mails from people who were on 9/22 disgusted that they followed my sell all long-term holdings advice and then bought back in way higher than where they sold. I wrote them reiterating what I said, that they should sell and stay out. Months later, a number of people wrote me saying they wished they had listened.

Let's see here, which would most investors prefer:

1. Paying $20,000 in taxes on a $100,000 investment gain leaving an $80,000 profit; or

2. Losing the $80,000 profits plus $100,000 in direct loses.

I'm sure everyone who held LT after the NAZ crashed from 4,000 are happy they did not sell at 4k and rode it all the way down. But, you make the call, amigo.

To tell someone to sell all long term holdings is something you would expect a daytrader to make...Also someone selling long term holdings would be subject to capital gains taxes.
