Cold Comfort is really making fun of books where something unexpected happens :-) It's the anti-drama person's comedy of the perfectly and expectedly strange- if that makes any sense at all. I don't think you watch the movie so much for the drama of what happens, as for what you see while you sit there waiting for the inevitable to satisfy you. IMO It's a Turner as opposed to a Van Gogh, to use a painting analogy, or if you like Music, it's Strauss as opposed to Cage.
