However, another very relevant parallel is the Nazi ideology. When that ideology caught on in Germany, it transformed the nation into a killing machine that spread vitriol and war in every direction. Fundamentalist Islam has the potential to do much more damage in that it can reach far greater numbers of people. Add to that our diplomatic bungling and the threat is palpable. 9/11 taught us that this threat has reached our shores. We can no longer sit on the sidelines and watch the lunacy in the Middle East from the safety of our own homes. Instead, we have to get actively engaged to force change into the region. The Middle East in its current state is a security threat to the people of the U.S. Iraq is the centerpiece of our efforts to bring change to the region.

You talk about liberal white noise.......well let me tell you there is an equivalent rightie white noise. 9/11 has convinced roughly half the nation that we have the God given right to shoot anyone remotely connected to those who committed the 9/11 event. And when I say remotely, I mean any Muslim, fundamentalist or secular, who might potentially be bad. That basic notion has been screamed from American rooftops for roughly three years now. And when anyone has objected, the rightie white noise has become almost unbearable.

First of all, its a fool's game trying to round up every bad Muslim in the world who may or may not be plotting against us. It won't happen......period. If you try, you will end up hurting us.

Secondly, the world has never been a safe place. Humans are not a terribly stable race. If the Muslim terrorists don't get us, the home grown ones will.

Thirdly, I am not convinced that 9/11 is the beginning of a catastrophic string of terrorist events in the US. However, in the event that there may be others, I think our money would be better spent bolstering up our overall defense, particularly against acts of terrorism, and not starting wars. If nothing else, 9/11 showed us that the American national defense system stinks.......at least for these kind of events.

I am very unnerved that you all react in such a knee jerk way. If someone were to behave in the way we are behaving......doing shock and awe all over the world....say in a club, they would be arrested for disturbing the peace and undue aggression. Its quite amazing to me that you all think democracy, civility and responsible behavior ends at our borders; that we can do whatever we like once we get off American shores.

Finally, there is very little parallels between Nazism and Islam. OBL most likely would consider Hitler to be in irreligious perv. I don't think OBL is mentally disturbed; Hitler most definitely was. Fascism was rooted in extreme nationalism and racial superiority. Fundamental Islam is rooted in conservative, religious scriptures and fanaticism.

Not only do I not see the analogy but I am bothered that you all do not take the time to make the necessary distinctions before going off half cocked.
