"My understanding was that Hitler was sending many business owners and merchants to concentration camps."

Yes, but they were a special niche of business owners. They were Jews.

If your statement was intended to say that all of the business owners sent to concentration camps were Jewish, then your understanding differs from mine. Evidence suggests that the majority of those sent to concentration camps were Jewish, nearly all in the first year or two.

The vast majority of them were Jews. However, there were others from what was considered the inferior races.......gypsies, gays and the like.

Hitler wanted to reinstate the traditions under the Prussian Germany........to go back to the Germany before WW I. This is symptomatic of conservatism......the desire to maintain the status quo or to be reactionary........resisting significant change going forward.

Hitler might have said he wanted to go back to the era of German Principalities (Prussia was once such Principality), but since that meant no central control, this statement is off topic, irrelevant, or false.

No, it isn't OT......its evidence of his conservative orientation.

The last part of that is very descriptive of current Democrats. They are resistant to changes to government programs that are dysfunctional. They want to hark back to the forties and sixties when Americans needed their largess.

That is just not true. Dems are not willing to take the gamble that you all are proposing. In spite of the fact I am a trader, I would never want all of my retirement money in the stock market, and yet, that's what Bush is proposing for many people. I agree with Z and others. You all don't like SS and Bush is hellbent on killing the program completely. In fact, I think the right has an agenda to dismantle many of the programs they have complained about over the years as being too socialistic.

And you know what........it ain't going to happen.

Authoritarian is a philosophy that describes people who want a strong central government controlling the economy and limiting freedom. The opposite is Libertarian. If the twentieth century the only authoritarian governments that I noticed were Communist and Socialist.

Wrong. Fascism was rooted in conservatism as have been other dictatorships. Just because you don't know them doesn't mean they didn't exist.

These are generally considered to be leftist. You can pretend that Authoritarian is not a Democrat ideal, but items like Hillary care blow your cover.

Nonsense. Apparently, you can't make the distinction between authoritarianism and health care. How can I possibly discuss it with you then?

Perhaps you have failed to notice that it is the Republican Party and their President who is promoting freedom around the world. You are one of the people who have argued against allowing people in other countries to be free. Authoritarianism is clearly a Democrat ideal.

Mr. Bush is promoting war and aggression in the world. If democracy comes from it, its a positive by product of those efforts. It certainly wasn't his intent or reason given for invading Iraq in the first place. It became a substitute when the WMDs went MIA.

Do you really fall for GOP propaganda, or are you simply trying to make your case?
