That seems to be excessive hyperbole, IMO. While I am of the belief that the human population of the planet is likely to be smaller in 2050 than it is today, most demographic scientists would disagree and they believe we may hit 9 billion humans by then.

To say that the human race is in any danger of going extinct is completely hysterical, in my opinion. We may well be in for a century or more of endless resource wars, but homo sapiens sapiens isn't about to exit from the stage any time soon.
