I agree completely! But the situation is not changed by privatizing SS. The net government debt will stay identical.

I agree, or at least I agree that it may stay the same depending on how the privatization is done.

Their are benefits to private accounts but making social security solvent is not likely to be one of them. The only way they may help make social security solvent is the uncertain but possible indirect effect of causing the real liabilities to be recognized. If the obligation officially counts as debt then there may be more pressure to come to terms with it.
