Most people are well aware of the national debt. That might not actually be true but certainly most educated, politically involved people are aware of the national debt. However many of them aren't aware of the true obligations that the government faces. They think there is some big fund that is drawn on for medicare and social security. Count the liability for such payments as part of the national debt and the real debt is much larger then what most people think it is. Tim
