Richard Widmark, as the sheriff, old, respected didn’t want to turn his job to a new generation of law enforcement. The Far West city had progressed. Businesses needed to run smooth. Capitalists were pouring money in. Richard Widmark, still wanted to solve the problems by shooting and kicking asses.
The business people, pleaded and begged him to give up the job and retire. He said they should be thankful to him, for if not for him risking his life and kicking ass ability and skills with the gun, there won’t be any business there.
Guess the end of the film.

Plot of Widmark film: Even though Marshal Frank Patch (the US) has kept the peace in Cottonwood Springs (the world) for over twenty years, he is now the laughing stock of the town liberals (the rest of the world) who want some new blood (the BRICs) in the Marshall's Office.

When Patch (the US) shoots the drunken Luke Mills (Iraq) in self-defense they (the rest of the world) get the excuse they had been waiting for. The local newspaper editor, Andrew Oxley, (The Arabs) then demands his resignation but Patch (The US) refuses to quit and then disgraces Oxley (The Arabs) so badly in front of his son Will (Russia, China, India, Brazil) that Oxley (The Arabs) kills himself. Blaming Patch (The US) for his father's death, Will (Russia, China, India, Brazil) wants nothing more than to see Patch (The US) dead. Then against he advice of his friends, (Australia, New Zealand)) Patch (The US) refuses to quit and decides to marry Claire, (the UK) the owner of the local saloon and whore house. But when Will (Russia, China, India, Brazil) shows up at the wedding uninvited with his pistols loaded and reeking of liquor, a showdown is inevitable...

Stratfor on the Ukraine - What thay have left out is the push (or pull) by the EU to expand thier borders.

Using the 'soft power' of joining the EU, countries like Romania, Hungary, and Turkey have made major changes to legal and economic systems.

The EU wants to neutralize the security threat of Russia. And they want to be more independent of US protection from Russia.

That leads to a steady push to expand closer to Russia - Baltic Stastes, Ukaraine, Romainia, Moldova and maybe Transdinestria. Georgia, Armnenia. And soem pan-Turkish group to stabalize Central Asia and the 'Stan (Turkmenistan, Uzbekistant, Kazhackstan)

*****

Startfor does not seem to be as good on business topics as politcal military ones. They require different mind sets - one spends resources to reach goals, the other tries to arrange prices and costs to create net resources....
