There are published studies, following proven scientific methods, that present data gathered on the subject. These studies are subject to review by peers. When errors are found, they are corrected. Pride is taken not only in results, but in the strict scientific process that produced the results. This methodology differs from those who push 'psuedo science', where the conclusion is arrived at first, and the 'proof' is constructed from that conclusion. Strict creationism (where the world was created in 7 Earth days) and 'natural' global warming are two excellent examples of this pseudo science (aka science fiction). Previous generations have practiced this same science. The sun revolves around the earth. Other races are genetically inferior to Europeans. Women cannot stand the rigors of athletic competition. All meant to mask the truth, and keep the masses in line.
